In my blog I plan to chat about nature, crafts, baking, gardening, beekeeping, family, and whatever else seems appropriate at the time. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Baby News & Labor Day Weekend!

Once upon a time....years and years ago, my cousin Vickie and I dressed up a couple of Teddy Bears in her children's clothes.  I'm talking somewhere in the 1980's....

These green bibs belonged to her son Ryan, when he was little.

On Labor Day weekend, I returned the bibs to Ryan and Melissa, so they could put them on Murphy!
Meet Murphy!
Happy Little Family!
After visiting Murphy, we went to my sister and her husband's house for a cookout!
I'm a little late in posting this as it was Labor Day Weekend.
(I told you I don't know where September went!)

It was gorgeous outside.

We had s'mores...

And we watched a movie, outside!
"Arachnophobia"
The kids in the background are trying to talk Mom (Grandma) into taking them somewhere.
Not gonna happen!
Dad and Vickie must think it's funny.

Goodnight y'all!
Thanks for the fun evening!

First Friday in September & Chick Flicks!

Wow!  Where is September going?  And what's the deal with the weather?
I don't know if I should be drinking hot chocolate...
or eating ice cream!
So I'm doing both!!!

We have an event downtown called "First Friday."  I have to admit, I usually find them somewhat boring.  I used to love going, back in the day when I knew a lot of people that attended, and my friend Beth had a studio.  I would sit in the studio and visit all evening long.  I'm a social person, in case you haven't guessed that yet.
A couple of weeks ago, it was Friday, I had no plans, and didn't want to stay home.   I decided to go to our First Friday event.  I even went into the 'old studio.'  It now has a very nice lady in it that sells vintage and fun stuff.  As I was heading downstairs, this lady was playing the piano, and these two men started singing.
IT WAS GREAT!
Not their voices...but the fact that they got up and sang and didn't care how they sounded.
It was an old tune, and they were loving every minute.

Then I came home with my pizza, popped open some wine, and yes, this was after the moosetracks ice cream cone!!!!  It was Friday after all!  And I was out on a date with myself!

I popped in a chick flick, snuggled with my dog, ate pizza and drank wine.
The movie was
"Letters to Juliet"

Have you ever seen it?
My husband has a saying that if it doesn't have princesses and fairies in it, I don't want to watch it!  I can't help it, I like happy endings.  And in the winter months, I spend a lot of time at home, especially in the evenings....and I need some chick flick suggestions.

My question to you is what are your favorite Chick Flicks?

Cindy

PS.  A few of my favorites are....

I've watched more than half a dozen times!
Under the Tuscan Sun
Letters to Juliet
The Notebook
A Good Year
The Long Hot Summer (which I usually watch in the summer)
The Holiday (which I usually watch in December, along with any other Hallmark or goody goody type Christmas movies)

Have seen more than once....
You've Got Mail
Sleepless in Seattle
Somewhere in Time
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Winn Dixie
Miss Potter
Out of Africa

Winter go to movies
a little series called Cranford
a big series called North and South
Enchanted April
My House in Umbria
Pride and Prejudice

Kittens

About a month ago, I went shopping at a local antiques store with a friend.  I saw these cement lion statuaries and thought they might be cool somewhere around our house.  (bottom of pic)

I got this instead!

It wasn't planned.  I was on my way into town and saw a black and white kitty in the road.  When I stopped my car, it ran back to the side of the road (which was on a bridge)

I went to the edge of the bridge and looked into the woods, and saw this other kitty.

 I left.
Did my errands.
Came back several hours later.
And they were still there.
UGH!

And the black and white kitty would not let me get back in my car.  It kept running after me.  I'd put it back on the bridge and it would run after me.  I was going to take my groceries home then come back, but it was persistent.  So I put it in my car and brought it home.  Then, the guilt set in.  What about the orange striped kitty?  What's going to become of it all by itself in the woods?  About that time a neighbor asked me over for a glass of wine.  I asked her to meet me on the bridge to get a kitty instead!  She said she already had a kitty!  WHAT?  Yep, somehow a kitty, about the same age, ended up in her pole barn.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.

As we were on the bridge, for over an hour, trying to get the orange kitty to come to us, another friend drove by and asked what us weirdos were doing hanging out on the bridge!!!  HA HA  So she stopped to help.  All three of us were trying to get this kitty.  I ended up climbing over the bridge (in flip flops), walking along the cement thingy and got the kitty.  We brought it back to our house and put it with the other kitty.
The next day they were both still there. (sigh)
The black and white kitty is very friendly, the orange kitty runs away...wants nothing to do with people.  I've always said I don't want any more animals, so I gave them to my Shug! (teehee)
 He feeds them.
 They've made themselves at home...

This guy is not happy at all about them.

The other day we were having breakfast and this head popped out of the tree!

 They do the cutest things!

So, since they seem to be here to stay we got them an igloo....
But my Shug felt he had to make them a deluxe kitty birdhouse!   It looks like a birdhouse, but it's their size.
The lid opens up like a birdhouse, and you will see a shelf inside, plus a carpeted floor.
A hole in the side of it that faces the house, so no wind will blow in it.
And a window so they can see what's going on outside.  I think it's pretty deluxe for kittens (with no names by the way.)
So they have two different homes to live in now.  I guess their staying.
Yeah...I wanted this...

I got this!

French Lick - Five on Friday

It's been awhile, but I am hooking up with FAST Blog for Five on Friday.

Last week a neighbor asked me if I would go with her to a place in Indiana called French Lick.  I have never been there, and have always wanted to go, so this was my chance.  She was meeting some friends she went to school with and needed someone to navigate.

Here are some pictures of the hotel....

It was impossible to get a picture of the entire place all together as it is huge!  I wanted you to see the porch. in this picture.

But....
First stop was in town for lunch.  (actually first stop was the French Lick winery but it wasn't open for lunch that day)  Here is a picture of the hotel from town.
We didn't get to eat at this restaurant, but I guess it was owned by Larry Bird. He is a local basketball hero and owned this restaurant.  It was closed too.  Apparently, a lot of places are closed on Mondays.

Can you tell what this lady is doing?  Looking at the sky through a cereal box!
(Say like an old person)
"Back in my day we didn't need fancy glasses to look at the solar eclipse, we put pin holes in boxes.  Works just as well and you don't spend a bunch of money..." blah blah and blah.
But the hotel was passing out fancy solar eclipse glasses...
I stayed on the porch and did not partake in looking at the solar eclipse.  I've had a lot of problems with my eyes this summer so I decided I didn't need one more thing.  And this leads me to the number one thing I liked about French Lick.

That porch!
.

We were there during the week and it wasn't real crowded, which made it nice because there was always a seat available.  This is my neighbor and her friends.

The second thing I loved about the place was the décor.

Three - stuff to do at the hotel
They have a casino inside the hotel,  a couple of restaurants, a spa,  a bowling alley, and some boutiques.  The only place we went to was the restaurants, shops, and the casino.  We got there on Monday and left on Wednesday, so there wasn't time to do it all.

We were losers but at least we were good sports about it!
(Actually, she did win around $180 the first night we were there!  I never won, but I'm not a big gambler so I didn't lose much either!)
I did, however, buy a top at one of the boutiques for 60% off!!!

The fourth thing I loved about the place were the pools.  I never did get to swim in them,
but I love that they have indoor

and outdoor pools and a hot tub.

They also had a seating area and deli by the pools,
which was great because we needed a little refresher.  We had a pop up shower and didn't get wet as we were under the awning.  I think awnings add so much ambience to a seating area.
And last.....the doorman!  He was only there on our last day, but look how he is dressed.
(He kind of looks like the wizard of Oz to me!)

I loved French Lick and I would definitely go back.

There's my Five on Friday!  Pop over and see what everyone else is up to by clicking here!
